Searching the Whitley County Court Docket
Start at Indiana MyCase. It is free, and no account is needed. Pull the cause or citation number off a summons, ticket, or court order first, because that single number gets you straight to the right Whitley County court docket. No number in hand? A party or business name works too, and the search screen lets you narrow results by first name, date of birth, court, category, case status, and date range.
- Collect the number, court, party spelling, and useful dates.
- Choose By Case, By Party, or By Attorney.
- Select Whitley and 92C01 or 92D01.
- Open Case Details and read every CCS event.
- Compare later settings, transfers, orders, and dispositions.
- Use the public computer, counter, phone, mail, or Files Department if needed.
A filing can exist in the court file even when MyCase shows no image of it online. When you hit that wall, the Whitley County Clerk is the official fallback, and the office can route a precise copy request for you.
Whitley MyCase Docket Fields
Search by Case takes one identifier at a time. Use a Case Number, Citation Number, or Cross Reference Number. Search by Party requires a last name or a business name. Attorney-name and bar-number methods must stay separate. Wildcards go at the end only, and they cannot team up with sounds-like. Broad docket searches also cap out at 1,000 results. Tighten your terms before you lose entries.
| Mode | Fields | Whitley filter |
|---|---|---|
| Case | Case, citation, or cross reference | Exact number |
| Party | Name, optional DOB | County, court, date |
| Attorney | Name or bar number | 92C01 or 92D01 |
The official search shows these controls.

Apply the Whitley codes and exact case facts, and the statewide screen turns into a local Whitley County court docket search.
Inside a Whitley County Court Docket
The CCS is a running log of judicial events. A Whitley County entry may list the case title, cause number, public parties and attorneys, fees, filings, settings, orders, and results. One caution: the date next to a notation is the entry date, and it is not always the hearing or filing date.
| Cause number | County, court, date, type, sequence |
|---|---|
| Status | Summary read with later events |
| Events | Filings, service, settings, motions, orders |
| Documents | Public links when an image is online |
| Costs | Amounts to confirm with the Clerk |
A missing link does not mean a missing filing. Also, a MyCase printout is not a certified copy of the official court file.
Whitley Court Docket Number Codes
Every Whitley case number opens with county code 92. After that, C01 marks Circuit Court and D01 marks Superior Court, followed by the date, case type, and sequence. So 92C01-2210-MI-884 shows the official format in action, while 92D01-____-IF is the form reserved for traffic.
- CCS
- Sequential official event record.
- IF
- Infraction case type.
- Converted event
- Entry imported from an older system.
- Disposition
- Event or judgment resolving the matter.
Other codes to know: CM for a misdemeanor, F1 through F6 for felonies, EV for eviction, CC for collection, and SC for small claims. Copy the code down exactly rather than reconstructing the number from memory.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Whitley County
Two trial courts share one Columbia City courthouse and a single Clerk. Local rules split the caseload between them, but exceptions and transfers happen, so the code on the current case file is what controls.
| Court | Docket covers | Search |
|---|---|---|
| Circuit, 92C01 | Serious felonies, juveniles, divorces with children, collections | MyCase and Clerk |
| Superior, 92D01 | Infractions, most traffic and misdemeanors, evictions, small claims | MyCase and Clerk |
| Unified Clerk | CCS, files, costs, copies, certification | Online, counter, phone, mail |
The state Whitley directory confirms the structure.

It is the official court route beyond a general county page.
Whitley Court Docket Filing Counts
The certified 2024 statistics are big numbers. Whitley County courts began with 7,588 cases previously pending, took in 6,492 new filings, and had 14,114 total before them. They closed 6,128 and ended the year with 7,962 pending. Remember that these count cases and court events, not unique people.
Among the new filings were 1,521 criminal cases and 3,012 civil violations, and 3,009 of those violations were infractions. Treat the statistics as background only, since they are informational and not the official record for any single case.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
Whitley County posts no standalone daily hearing calendar. The county event calendar covers government meetings, not case settings. Your best sources are the summons and the citation. The latest order and the individual CCS also work. A later entry marked continued, reset, passed, vacated, or disposition can replace an older date. Call Circuit at 260-248-3115 or Superior at 260-248-3119 to hear a live setting. The Clerk can confirm where the record sits. Indiana Court Streams sometimes carries an approved open hearing, though it is not a calendar.

The help source supports the event search, while a current court order controls.
Whitley Court Docket Public Computer
The Clerk offers a public computer, but you run the search yourself. Bring a cause number and the exact party spelling. Add the court code and a date range. It helps when home results are murky or an older file needs routing. The county copies page explains local access.

The source confirms that most files are public, yet not every record is online.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Indiana Access Rule 4 presumes court records are public, whatever their form. That covers paper, electronic, scanned, and other formats, subject to exclusions. Rule 5 then shields confidential case types, medical and treatment material, juvenile and mental-health records, probation information, personal identifiers, and sealed documents.
Rules:
Rule 4 states public access and public indications of exclusion.
Rule 5 defines excluded material.
Trial Rule 77 defines Clerk records and the CCS.
Indiana Code Title 5 supplies the wider records framework.
A missing address or a locked document may simply reflect a lawful access limit. Ask which rule applies rather than guessing at what the court file contains.
Whitley Historical Court Docket Books
Older Whitley County records live with the Files Department at 220 W. Van Buren. The holdings run deep. Circuit civil order books date from 1853-1960, and felony material from 1953-2003. Superior felony records run through 1997, and misdemeanors through 2009. The department also holds estates, guardianships, probate, and common-pleas indexes. Some civil and criminal packets reach back to the 1830s. Call 260-248-3143 about the File Management Request Form. Ask to set an appointment as well. A blank MyCase result does not prove a historical file is gone. The Files Department page describes that route.

The separate archive path is central to research that predates Odyssey.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
Clerk Cindy Doolittle's office keeps the files for both trial courts. You will find it at 101 W. Van Buren Street, Room 18, on the second floor. Hours are weekdays 8:00-4:30, with a noon-1:00 closure, and the phone is 260-248-3102. Docket access runs from MyCase to the public terminal. Counter inspection, phone routing, and mail also work. A formal request under the Indiana rules rounds out the options.

Whitley Courthouse Docket Visit
Security screening bars weapons, knives, razors, box cutters, tasers, and similar items. Entering judicial areas means consenting to that screening. Keep phones silent. Do not photograph or record without approval. Two-hour parking sits on three sides of the square, with longer parking where posted. The current Whitley County website is a good contact check.

Call ahead for an interpreter, an accessible format, or a physical-access need, since the courthouse lists no separate public counter for those requests.
Whitley County Docket Appeals Route
A final trial judgment generally goes to the Indiana Court of Appeals. It travels under a new appellate number. Some matters head straight to the Supreme Court, and tax appeals follow their own route. Whitley County sits in Judicial District 6 alongside DeKalb, LaGrange, Noble, and Steuben. The district directory supplies that context.

District administration does not replace the separate trial and appellate searches.
Whitley Odyssey Docket History
Whitley County moved its docket onto Odyssey in 2019. Newer cases fit a statewide electronic pattern. Older ones may show up as converted events or still sit in books, microfilm, and packets. MyCase displays selected public Odyssey data. It is not the attorney e-filing interface. The Odyssey courts list shows which courts take part, county by county.

The adoption date is a search clue, not a record-retention cutoff.
Whitley County Court Dockets by City
Official 2024 estimates count four incorporated communities in Whitley County. None of them runs its own municipal court. The current Odyssey list is the check for that. A local police or ordinance page can help you spot where a citation came from. For the actual court record, MyCase and the county Clerk hold what you need.

One County Search Path
Columbia City serves as the Whitley County seat. It counted 10,185 residents in the 2024 estimate. City Hall and police records are not the county court docket. Read a city ticket for its court and due-date fields. Search by the exact citation number. Narrow the result to Whitley Superior when it is an infraction. City police can identify the issuing record. The county Clerk confirms whether a matter actually entered the court system.
Churubusco held a 2024 estimate of 1,857. Its police write traffic tickets. Ordinance 2017-15 covers the authority to ticket Indiana Traffic Code violations and issue ordinance summonses. Those local sources explain how a case begins. They do not create a separate Churubusco court. Search MyCase and select 92D01 when appropriate. Give the Clerk the exact citation number if nothing appears.
South Whitley carried a 2024 estimate of 1,849. Its ordinance index places traffic rules under Title VII. An ordinance page describes the rule behind a charge. It does not show a plea, setting, judgment, or CCS event. Start with the ticket and police contact. Then search MyCase. Ask the county Clerk whether the case was filed as an infraction, an ordinance matter, or another Superior case type.
Larwill, with a 2024 estimate of 276, posts no local docket, court, police, or ordinance portal. Start with the agency printed on the citation. Search by citation or cause number. Limit the result to Whitley Superior when the record supports that route. Incorporation alone never creates a municipal court.
This is why the court code matters more than where the conduct occurred. A town ticket can land in Superior Court. Serious criminal, juvenile, family, collection, and other assigned matters can belong in Circuit Court instead. A transfer order may move a case later. Follow the live CCS and court code, not an address, badge, or ordinance title.
Every community relies on the same fallback chain after filing. Try MyCase. Then use the Clerk public computer, the counter or phone, a focused mail request, and the Files Department for older material. A party or attorney may have an authorized portal view. That does not make confidential material public. Ordinary researchers need no account for the free public search.
For any setting, read the ticket, summons, notice, or latest order and compare all later CCS entries. Call the office tied to 92C01 or 92D01 when a date stays unclear. A town meeting calendar, ordinance list, reminder, or stream cannot override a current order. That discipline keeps each local search tied to the Whitley County court that actually maintains the case.
When MyCase Is Incomplete
An online Whitley County docket search can fail for sound reasons. The number may carry different hyphens or leading zeros. A citation may not be entered yet. Older matters may use a legacy format. A public CCS event can exist while its document image stays offline. A sealed or excluded item may leave only a public notation. None of this supports guessing about the case or its hidden content.
Try the exact number first. Then try an alternate format that MyCase help permits. Narrow a name result by court, category, status, and filing range. Write down the court code, event date, and document title before calling. At the Clerk counter, ask whether the file is current, archived, paper, converted, or restricted. For mail, say whether you want a plain copy, certified copy, or CCS. Confirm the charge before sending funds.
Fax and email play narrow roles. Local rule permits certain fax filings without a fee. A fax is capped at ten pages including its cover. Identifying fields are required. That rule does not promise fax delivery of requested records. The published clerk email handles broadcast requests, not general copies. The Clerk offers no drop box. There is no request-tracking portal, fixed production deadline, or universal certified-copy mail form. Precise requests and direct confirmation are the safest Whitley practice.

The unified Clerk's Office that files, copies, and certifies records for both courts is on the second floor, Room 18; the Circuit and Superior judges' offices are on the third floor.
