How to Search Cases by Name
Open Indiana MyCase and choose By Party. A person search needs a last name; a business search uses Business Name instead. First name, middle name, date of birth, sounds-like, court, status, and filing dates can narrow results.
- Choose By Party and enter the exact last or business name.
- Add first or middle name, or date of birth, when allowed.
- Select Whitley County and the likely Circuit or Superior court.
- Narrow by status, category, and filing-date range.
- Match the case number, court, type, and date before opening Case Details.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last or Business Name | Text | Yes | Do not mix person and business fields. |
| First or Middle Name | Text | No | Requires a last name. |
| Date of Birth | Date | No | Requires a last name and narrows common names. |
| Court and Category | Dropdown | No | Select Whitley and Criminal, Civil, Family, or Probate. |
| File Date Range | Date | No | Start date must precede end date. |
Whitley Party Search Controls
Trailing wildcards are allowed only at the end and must begin with a letter or number. Sounds-like cannot be combined with a wildcard. Broad searches can reach the portal's 1,000-result cap, so a common name needs more detail.
The official search tips state the validation rules.

The instructions show why a narrow query is more reliable than guessing among a large list.
How to Search by Case Number
Use By Case and enter one identifier. A Whitley example is 92C01-2210-MI-884: 92 is the county, C01 is Circuit Court, 2210 is filing year and month, MI is case type, and 884 is sequence. Superior begins 92D01. MyCase can accept a cause number without hyphens and leading zeros. Citation and cross-reference strings should be copied exactly.
Common type codes include IF for infraction, CM for misdemeanor, F1 through F6 for felony levels, EV for eviction, SC for small claims, CT for civil tort, and MI for miscellaneous. Older converted cases may use legacy formats. Try the number with and without hyphens before asking the clerk.
Select Whitley's Correct Court Code
Whitley has two Odyssey court entries. Circuit is 92C01 and Superior is 92D01. The local assignment rules send all infractions and most traffic work to Superior, while Circuit receives serious felonies and juvenile matters. Several civil, family, and criminal exceptions apply, so the current CCS is better than a broad guess.
Quick check: Use the code printed on the summons, citation, or order before filtering search results.
What a Case Search Shows
A result row identifies the case. Case Details then supplies public metadata, parties, attorneys, settings, events, and document links when an image is available. The CCS is sequential, so later events can alter earlier ones.
| Case Number | Whitley court, filing period, type, and sequence. |
|---|---|
| Style or Parties | Public case caption and named participants, subject to access limits. |
| Case Type | Criminal, civil, family, probate, infraction, or a narrower code. |
| Filed Date | Date the case opened, not necessarily the underlying event date. |
| Status | Open, closed, or disposed status that must be read with later events. |
| Case Events | Dated filings, orders, settings, service, and court actions. |
Whitley Missing Document Links
No link does not mean no filing. It means the public image is unavailable online. Public, party, and attorney views differ. A party may request an access code, while counsel uses Courts Portal access. Neither turns confidential material into a public record.
The MyCase document access page explains the limits.

The clerk's public terminal, counter, phone, mail-copy process, and Files Department remain the fallback chain.
County vs Statewide Case Search
Whitley has no separate county case-search portal. Statewide MyCase is the online layer for both local trial courts, while the Whitley County Clerk holds the official county files. Use the portal for fast public discovery and the clerk for verification or missing material.
| Indiana MyCase | Whitley Clerk Channels |
|---|---|
| Participating Odyssey courts statewide | Official Circuit and Superior records |
| Selected public details and documents | Counter, public computer, phone, mail, and historical files |
| Best for discovery and current CCS review | Best for verification, copies, and omitted images |
Whitley Search Access Levels
Public MyCase is free and needs no account. Parties can activate party access codes under state rules. Attorneys use the Courts Portal. The party access instructions explain that added access is tied to the person's case role.

Access level changes which eligible documents appear, not the governing confidentiality rules.
The public portal can present a CAPTCHA. Do not bypass it. Retry through the normal interface or switch to the Whitley Clerk's public computer, counter, phone, or mail channels.
Restricted Cases and Access Rules
Indiana Access to Court Records Rule 4 begins with public access, while Rule 5 excludes specified records. Juvenile, mental-health, paternity, probation, treatment, victim-contact, full account-number, and sealed material can be withheld. Sometimes the public CCS shows that a filing exists while its image remains locked.
Use the phrase “excluded from public access under the applicable rule” rather than guessing what a hidden document says. A request for access follows the court's access procedure and forms. Indiana Code Title 5 does not override the judiciary's record rules. The current official record is held by the Whitley County Clerk.
The MyCase terms of use also explain that online data can be incomplete.

The terms reinforce the need to verify a material result with the originating Whitley court or clerk.
Whitley Search Results by the Numbers
MyCase will not return more than 1,000 results. That ceiling is a prompt to narrow, not proof that no other matching record exists. Add the Whitley court, case category, status, and a valid filing-date span.
Indiana also publishes aggregate trial court statistics. Those counts describe court workload and are not individual case results.
The trial statistics help page explains that separate use.

Aggregate statistics cannot replace a Whitley County case lookup in MyCase.
Indiana Court Statistics Online provides the data interface.

Use it for court trends, not to find a person's case or hearing.
Whitley Clerk Search Fallbacks
The full access chain is broader than MyCase. The Whitley County Clerk offers a public computer, counter help, telephone routing, and mailed copy requests for the Circuit and Superior records it keeps. Historical material can move to the county Files Department. These channels matter when a case is old, a public document image is missing, or a web search returns no sound match.
Bring or provide the cause number if possible. If it is unknown, give the exact party name, likely court, case type, and a narrow filing period. State whether the goal is to inspect the CCS, obtain a plain copy, or request a certified copy. The clerk's role is record access and certification. Staff cannot decide which case belongs to a searcher or interpret the legal effect of an entry.
For appellate activity, use Indiana's separate appellate docket search by appellate number, litigant, attorney, county of origin, trial court, type, or date. Its CCS can identify a related trial number. Federal matters are outside MyCase and move to PACER or a free RECAP source when available. Matching the court system first prevents a false “no result” conclusion in a Whitley County case search.
